How To: Delivery

Share this Post

The COVID-19 situation evolves by the hour, if not the minute, across the country. Some states have already ordered the closure of restaurant dining rooms and/or all non-essential business. However you’re operating today, may not be how you’re legally allowed to operate tomorrow, so don’t wait in setting up Delivery service.

Each state has different rules so be sure to double-check with your health department.

Protect Your Business with Delivery Insurance

With third-party services inundated with new partner requests and delays in approval, you might be tempted to start your own direct delivery. Before you do, be sure to review your current coverage to be certain it includes “Hired Non-Owned Auto (HNOA)” policies.

It’s a simple, relatively cost-effective addition to make and critical to be in place prior to beginning your service. Your insurance agent will be able to confirm whether this coverage can be added to a current policy or if you’ll need to apply for a stand-alone HNOA policy designed for delivery services by your employees using their personal vehicles.

If you already have a third-party delivery partner in place, rest assured their insurance policies already extend to your deliveries.

Secure HNOA Policy

Insurance providers are moving quickly to help restaurants secure the insurance they need for delivery, and you can help the process by having materials prepared. Each insurance provider is different but at a minimum, you’ll need:

  • The employee’s driver’s license;
  • The employee’s proof of car insurance;
  • A signed disclosure form to perform MVR checks for driver approval (several templates exist online and/or are available from your state’s DMV); and
  • A completed insurance application for HNOA

As difficult as it is to slow down and be patient through this process, rushing forward unprotected could be devastating to your organization’s long-term success. For help in this process, and/or questions about third-party delivery services, contact your Shamrock Foods Sales Representative.
